1 Among the prophets and teachers of the church at Antioch of Syria were Barnabas, Simeon (called ‘the black man’①), Lucius (from Cyrene), Manaen (the childhood companion of King Herod Antipas), and Saul. / ①Greek who was called Niger 2 One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Dedicate Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them." 3 So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way. 성경말씀: 사도행전 9:26-31

26 사울은 예루살렘으로 가서 그 곳의 제자들과 어울리려 했으나, 그들은 사울이 제자가 되었다는 사실을 믿지 못하고 모두 사울을 두려워했습니다. 27 하지만 바나바는 사울을 데리고 사도들에게로 갔습니다. 바나바는 사도들에게 사울이 길에서 주님을 본 것과, 주님께서 사울에게 하신 말씀과, 사울이 다마스커스에서 담대하게 예수님의 이름을 전한 일을 이야기해 주었습니다. 28 이렇게 해서 사울은 제자들과 함께 지내게 되었습니다. 그는 예루살렘을 자유롭게 다니면서 주 예수님의 이름을 담대하게 전했습니다. 29 사울은 그리스 말을 하는 유대인들과 이야기도 하고 논쟁을 벌이기도 하였으나, 그들은 사울을 죽이려고 했습니다. 30 형제들이 이 사실을 알고, 사울을 가이사랴로 데려갔다가 다시 다소로 보냈습니다. 31 그러는 동안, 유대와 갈릴리와 사마리아에 있는 교회들이 평화를 되찾았으며, 터전을 든든하게 잡았습니다. 교회는 주님을 두려워하며 성령의 위로를 받아 믿는 사람들의 수가 점점 늘어났습니다. 26 When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to meet with the believers①, but they were all afraid of him. They did not believe he had truly become a believer! / ①Greek disciples 27 Then Barnabas brought him to the apostles and told them how Saul had seen the Lord on the way to Damascus and how the Lord had spoken to Saul. He also told them that Saul had preached boldly in the name of Jesus in Damascus. 28 So Saul stayed with the apostles and went all around Jerusalem with them, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord. 29 He debated with some Greek-speaking Jews, but they tried to murder him. 30 When the believers heard about this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus, his hometown. 31 The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers. (New Living Translation)

1 Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen. A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria. 2 (Some devout men came and buried Stephen with great mourning.) 3 But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison. 4 But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went. 1 날이 갈수록 제자들의 수는 늘어만 갔습니다. 그 무렵에 그리스어를 사용하는 유대인들이 히브리어를 사용하는 유대인들에게 불평을 늘어 놓았습니다. 그것은 히브리어를 사용하는 본토 유대인들이 매일 음식을 나누어 줄 때, 그리스어를 사용하는 유대인 과부들에게는 관심을 쏟지 않아, 그들이 배급을 제대로 받지 못했기 때문입니다. 2 그래서 열 두 사도가 제자들을 모두 불러서 말했습니다. “음식을 나누어 주는 일 때문에 우리가 하나님의 말씀을 가르치는 일을 소홀히 하는 것은 옳지 않습니다. 3 그러니 형제 여러분, 여러분들 중에서 성령과 지혜가 충만하다고 인정받은 사람 일곱 명을 뽑으십시오. 그 사람들에게 이 일을 맡기고, 4 우리는 기도하는 일과 하나님의 말씀을 가르치는 일에 온 힘을 기울이겠습니다.” 5 모든 사람이 이 말을 좋다고 생각해서 믿음이 좋고 성령이 충만한 스데반을 비롯하여 빌립과 브로고로와 니가노르와 디몬과 바메나와 유대인으로 개종한 안디옥 사람 니골라를 뽑았습니다. 6 사람들이 이들을 사도들 앞으로 데려오자, 사도들이 그 사람들 머리에 손을 얹고 기도했습니다. 7 그후, 하나님의 말씀은 계속 퍼져 나가서 예루살렘에서 제자의 수가 많이 늘었습니다. 뿐만 아니라 유대인 제사장들 중에서도 믿음을 가지게 된 사람들이 많이 생겨났습니다. 1 But as the believers rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. The Greek-speaking believers complained about the Hebrew-speaking believers, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, "We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. 3 And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. 4 Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word." 5 Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following： Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit), Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas of Antioch (an earlier convert to the Jewish faith). 6 These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them. 7 So God's message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too. (New Living Translation)

1 어느 날 오후 3시, 기도하는 시간이 되어 베드로와 요한이 성전으로 올라가고 있었습니다. 2 성전 문에는 태어날 때부터 걷지 못하는 사람이 앉아 있었습니다. 사람들이 그 사람을 날마다 메고 와서 ‘아름다운 문’이라 부르는 성전 문에 앉혀 놓고, 성전에 들어가는 사람들에게 구걸을 하게 하였습니다. 3 베드로와 요한이 막 성전으로 들어가려는 것을 보고, 걷지 못하는 사람은 그들에게 구걸을 하였습니다. 4 베드로는 요한과 함께 그 사람을 눈 여겨 본 후에, “우리를 보시오”라고 말했습니다. 5 그 걷지 못하는 사람은 무언가 얻을 것을 기대하면서 두 사람을 쳐다보았습니다. 6 그러나 베드로는 이런 말을 하였습니다. “은과 금은 내게 없으나, 내게 있는 것을 당신에게 주겠소. 나사렛 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 일어나 걸으시오.” 7 이 말을 하면서 베드로는 그 사람의 오른손을 잡아 일으켜 세웠습니다. 그러자 그 사람의 다리와 발목에 힘이 생겼습니다. 8 그 걷지 못하던 사람이 벌떡 일어나 걷기 시작하였습니다. 그는 두 사람과 함께 성전으로 들어가 걷기도 하고, 껑충껑충 뛰기도 하면서, 하나님을 찬양하였습니다. 9 모든 사람이 걷지 못하던 사람이 걸어 다니는 것과 하나님을 찬양하는 것을 보았습니다. 10 사람들은 그가 전부터 성전의 ‘아름다운 문’에 앉아 구걸하던 바로 그 사람이라는 것을 알고서, 눈앞에서 벌어진 이 일로 인해 크게 놀라며 이상하게 생각했습니다. 1 Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o'clock prayer service. 2 As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. 4 Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, "Look at us!" 5 The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. 6 But Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold for you. But I'll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!" 7 Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man's feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. 8 He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them. 9 All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God. 10 When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded!
